초음파의 진정한 가치는 임상 진단에 있어 도움을 주는 유용한 도구라는 점이다. 근골격계 초음파 전문가, 특히 영상의학, 스포츠 재활의학, 외상학 및 정형외과학, 직업의학, 해부학 전문가가 모여 만든 이 책의 목적은 새로운 지식을 정립하고 이를 이해하기 쉽게 명확히 하여 진료에서 초음파를 사용하는 이들에게 도움을 주고자 하는 것이다.
이 책은 총 26개의 장으로 구성되어 있다. 처음 3개의 장에서는 초음파의 전반적인 사항들에 대해 다루고, 다음 3개의 장에서는 임상에서 가장 빈번하게 다루는 견관절 부위에 대해, 16개의 장에서는 해부학적 영역들(주관절, 수부 및 완관절, 골반 및 대퇴부, 슬관절, 하지 및 족관절) 그리고 마지막 4개의 장에서는 말초신경들(상지 및 하지로 분지하는)의 검사에 대해 다뤘다. 각 영역의 첫 번째 장은 해부학 그리고 두 번째 장은 병리학에 대한 내용으로 구성된다. 첫 번째 장에서 다루는 해부학을 완벽히 하지 못한다면 영상으로 진단을 내릴 수 없다. 중요한 삽화에는 특별한 강조 표시를 사용했다. 초음파상의 2차원적 흑-백 영상은 학생 때 공부하거나 기존 서적에서 본 해부학과는 달라 개념을 파악하기에 어려울 수 있다. 그 때문에 이를 쉽게 하여 초음파를 공부하는 분들에게 도움이 되고자 해부 모식도를 추가하였다.
