서울시 고등학교에서 30여 년 동안 미술교사로 재직하였다. 6권의 미술교과서를 집필하였으며, 미술영재프로그램과 미술과정 운영을 통해 오랜 시간 미술교육 프로그램 개발과 미술대학 입시지도를 하였다. 2019년 2월 명예퇴임 후 작품 활동을 하고 있다.

2009~2018년까지 서울 오금고등학교에서 미술교사로 재직하며 미술과정 운영을 통해 재능과 열정이 있는 학생들을 발굴하여 꿈을 향해 도전하도록 용기를 불어 넣었다. 다채로운 커리큘럼 운영, 논술 및 토론 등의 수업으로 학생들의 사고력을 성장시킨 결과 해마다 서울대, 홍익대, 국민대 등 유명 미술대학에 진학하는 학생들이 기하급수적으로 늘어나게 되었다. 그의 열정적이고 체계적인 지도에 많은 미술대학 지망생들이 모여들었고, 지속되는 뛰어난 대입결과로 오금고는 미대입시의 메카로 자리 잡게 되었다. 그러나 가만히 들여다보면 단지 명문대 합격자 수가 늘어난 입시 결과 때문만은 아니었다.

저자는 당장의 입시 결과보다 학생 스스로 자신의 잠재력을 확인하고 재능을 계발하며 미래를 위해 어떤 자세로 무엇을 준비해야 하는지를 학생들과 함께 고민하고 소통하는 데 주안점을 두었기 때문이다. 그 결과물로 미대입시의 방법과 진로문제를 고민하는 많은 학생들과 오랜 시간 함께하면서 고민해온 미술전공 학생이 지녀야 할 자세와 각자에 맞는 입시방법, 그리고 소통의 노하우를 누구나 공유할 수 있도록 『미대입시 ‘64’』를 만들게 되었다.
