『News, Signs and Culture』(2004)와 『Television News, Images and Semiotics』(2004) 등을 이은 백선기 교수의 영문 저서로, 한국 보도에 대한 기호학적 분석 연구들을 외국의 학자들이나 학생들에게 전파하기 위해 저술된 책이다. 한국에서의 기호학 연구, 특히, 이른바 ‘보도의 기호학’이나 ‘미디어 기호학’ 연구들을 소개하고, 이들 연구들에서 나타나는 이슈들에 대해 외국의 미디어 연구자들이나 기호학자들과의 토론을 유도하고 있다.
